Another Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ

As the craziness of last year started to wind down, new pregnancies were announced, two amazing friends are now engaged and Andy set the competition schedule for the year. I don’t think life is ever going to slow down but to cherish all these moments, I want to keep posting about them here just for my own personal enjoyment and reflection on this amazing life God has given me and all the people who I get to share it with. On to Another Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ…

Babies!

I wasn’t sure how I was going to go about continue the baby posts—either keep posting the 2012 babes or start over with the 2013 newborns… either way I can’t not continue to show the adorableness that are my nephews and nieces in this ever growing group of friends. And who knows, there may be new pregnancies that are announced any day (not by me, sorry)… As of now I am just going to post about any babies I happen to see—Oh, I know you’re looking forward to the cuteness!!

Jameson

This little guy celebrated his first birthday. My favorite moment with him is when I held him a mere two hours after he was born but second favorite moment would have to be when I was holding him at his birthday party and he was singing and dancing to the music. Knowing his parents, this kid is just going to be the coolest and slickest dancer ever.

Owen

“Little” Owen, also known affectionately as “Chunk,” is just as adorable as ever. I just love his gummy little grins. Plus he has my hubby wrapped around his little chubby fingers. I am pretty sure if it weren’t for Owen that I may not have been able to convince Andy to get a Disneyland pass this year. 🙂 Here’s a photo from this past weekend’s trip to Disneyland and our first trip with Owen in tow! As we were walking around the park I started thinking back on the many many trips we have taken with Joey and Jamie, as friends then as double dates then as newlyweds, and then first with Eli and now with Owen—love these blessed changes!

Brides

Amie

This girl is the fastest wedding planner ever. Not even joking, she basically has her whole wedding planned and just gets to sit back and enjoy the next 8 months to the wedding. Of course there will be plenty of craft nights and parties to plan along the way, but so far she has taken care of the venue, her dress, the photographer, a videographer, the florist—same one I had (yay!), the Wobble dancing DJ, planned and was honored at an engagement party, met with photo booth and honeymoon vendors at a bridal expo… and I am sure there are more items to add to this list too but I think you get the idea. 🙂

BBQ

After the News Years competition, our January was pretty slow for BBQ. The boys did get together to film another submission for BBQ Pitmasters though. I loved how their film came out these year! Too bad they didn’t get picked though. 🙁 Andy also took part in an episode for a new food related show that will be aired later this year. I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Shorty’s Rib Fest, Cathedral City

Also this past weekend we competed and vended at Shorty’s Rib Fest in Cathedral City, California. You can read more about that craziness on the Rooftop BBQ blog.

This photo is taken from the end of our line! Yes, all those people are waiting for us to serve them BBQ pork ribs!

Green Mountain Grills Pitmaster BBQ Sauce

Last week I alluded to a coming announcement about Rooftop BBQ Sauce. Andy announced just yesterday on the Whiskey Bent Radio Show that team’s long time sponsor, Green Mountain Grills, is producing the Rooftop BBQ sauce; repackaged, rebranded and with an improved formula: Pitmaster BBQ Sauce.

Starting next week it will be shipping out nationwide to all GMG stores and beyond. While the team will still be selling the sauce at their events, GMG will be the sole distributor and they will be making it much more available and at a more inexpensive price at $5.99 a bottle. It has also been repackaged in a plastic bottle with a new label and has been thinned out with the addition of apple juice.

Everyone we talk to seems to have an opinion on Andy’s decision to do this, but as I may be the only one who truly knows how much Andy works while running a side business—or two— in addition to a full time job. He never stops. Now, taking and shipping sauce orders has been lifted off his shoulders and he can focus on what he truly loves: cooking amazing barbeque.

Follow past and upcoming Babies, Brides and BBQ here!

Rooftop Barbeque

I started this post almost 2 years ago and never got around to actually finishing it and getting it posted. Better late than never, I guess.

Well even if you’ve been following my blog for awhile or are a new reader, I will recap on the last three years in our little lives…

My hubby started a competitive BBQ team back in 2010. After winning a third place trophy [in tri tip] at their first BBQ competition, they were hooked and Rooftop Barbeque was there to stay.

And here we are three years later… they’ve since won over thirty top 10 trophies, plaques, and medals along with winning People’s Choice at their second competition in Mesquite, Nevada—and a check for $1,500.

Created and sold a small run of t-shirt designs to the public.

womens-vneck-lr

And two years ago they launched Rooftop BBQ Competition Style sauce along with a rub and a Jalapeno Peach jam to follow.

The BBQ sauce received great reviews and came to be known as the best BBQ sauce of 2011.

Big changes are coming to our little BBQ sauce product and with those changes coming I figured I should post a few of the designs we created for the soon to be retired label for Rooftop BBQ Competition Style Sauce.

The Sauce Label Design

When Andy and I sat down to design our product label, Andy wanted to create a brand that was totally different than our flame logo mark (see first photo above) as he wanted it to able to be set apart from the competition team and stand on its own.

rooftop-bbq-sauce-sketch

Our first product launched was a small run of a BBQ rub. We printed the labels ourselves at Staples and had the rub itself made by a company back east and we were never truly happy with the packaging they provided.

rooftop-bbq-rub-2011_1012

A few months later our sauce launched… and by March of 2012 we had our very own booth at the ACM BBQ Throwdown in Las Vegas.

Andy and I shot our own product photography on the side of our house using the fence as a backdrop and you may recognize the pallet coffee table that I take all my portfolio shots on. 🙂

And of course new business cards, I just love how these came out too.

And there you go… a design oriented glimpse into my little world of BBQ. I am excited to post the news coming to the sauce—hopefully even by next week. 🙂 But until then, you can still purchase the sauce or the Jalapeno Peach Jam here.

You can keep following the team and the products in my Babies, Brides and BBQ posts.

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (December 2012)

The final Babies, Brides, and BBQ post of 2012… December was a good month. A good good month. Spent so much time with family and friends as Christmas drew near. Andy and I are truly blessed by the people we have in our lives, really truly blessed.

Babies!

Jameson

Jameson’s parents asked me to take their family photos for their Christmas card! It was my first baby photo shoot so I was pretty nervous. Good thing J-mo is such a stud! December was also his first birthday, he was a  New Year’s baby! Stay tuned next month for photos of his crazy creative Winter Onederland birthday party!

Owen!!

I knew I would love having Joey, Jamie and little Eli as neighbors, but that was a few months before Owen even existed! And now I just love love love having them as neighbors, getting to watch this little chunker grow up. He has started the one arm army crawl just like his brother did, and it is just the cutest!

owen-8months

Grayson!!

Grasyson’s mommy allowed me to be the first ever outside of the family babysitter! So of course we watched a little Peter Pan and then had a mini photo shoot. At 7 months old, Grayson has the best expressions. I have never seen a baby smile as much as this guy does. And isn’t the way he sits up just the cutest? I love his little legs!

Brides

So as of the Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends, I have two new brides to add to my blog as the 2012 brides have got themselves all married and such.

Lauren & Brittany

But before we officially say goodbye to Mrs. Wagoner and Mrs. Totah, here’s a sneak peek of their bridal scrapbooks my mom and I made them… more details and photos of those later. 🙂

Kathleen

Oh this girl and her man… they started dating at the end of last summer. I think everyone, including myself, knew Mr. Allan was going to be “the one” right away. They are so so perfect for each other! Ugh, so happy! You can follow Kathleen’s wedding over on her blog as well as read their proposal story!

december-fms-photo-a-day-4

And one extra for Kathleen, this was our first girl’s night after she got engaged so she got to see the babies and had her wedding planning notebook in hand, needlesss to say I just love this photo!!

Amie

Knowing Amie since we were in Kindergarten makes anything I have to say on her wedding really really hard. Too many words, too many stories, too many moments in time that leave me breathless. Simply put, Amie is my best friend who has stuck by me through some pretty hard times, and of course some many wonderful times including being my maid of honor in my own wedding. And now it’s her turn, AND I AM SO EXCITED!! It was just last weekend that Matt proposed but we have already been pinning away for a year so lots has happened in just one week… including dress shopping and designing the engagement party invites oh and she asked me to be her matron of honor! Eeeek! I’ll save all that for the next edition of “Babies, Brides, and BBQ!”

BBQ

New Years in Lake Elsinore

Just this past Monday and Tuesday the boys competed in their last of 2012 and first of 2013 BBQ competition. Their best win was just yesterday with a second in brisket… here’s to an even better season in 2013!

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (October & November)

Well the weddings have come and gone as the babies have just grown and grown and grown… and somehow throw in a couple BBQ competitions all in 6 weeks time—oh and a week of those six was spent in Washington! And Hello Thanksgiving!

Babies!

Jameson

I just love this little guy! I’ve loved every stage of his life but it just keeps getting better and better, more fun and more fun for this Auntie! I mean, look at that face! 🙂 Plus this past weekend we took some Christmas portraits of the Baker family, excited to post those next month!

Owen!!

These last two months have definitely held lots of Owen moments. You know those babies that you just want to kiss them all over, well Owen’s little chubs just bring out all the kisses, from everyone not just this crazy auntie! While the guys were out celebrating Kellen’s bachelor party, Lauren and I got to watch the boys and I was just so excited to get that opportunity! I even got Owen to sleep, once, after 90 minutes of rocking. And Owen made it to his first BBQ competition! Now that was fun!

Grayson!!

Last time, I said that Grayson still seemed so little and he still does! But I think it’s just because he’s the youngest of the bunch! This boy, oh let me tell you, well his mommy said it best, if you ever get the chance to meet Grayson:

He would probably smile at you with his eyes.
I think you would fall in love with him immediately.

And it’s totally true! This little guy’s grin is just priceless! On another note, Grayson was dedicated at our church last month, the service brought tears to my eyes just remembering the trials the Williams’ family had to endure to finally be blessed by this baby. A reminder that life is a gift, and truly a miracle.

And I can not forget to show you the adorable best friends all dressed up in their Halloween costumes!! You may have seen this already as my Photo of the Day but I just had to share it again!

Brides

As these two girls became the Mrs. to their Misters, we danced the nights away, rejoicing over their new lives together as one….

Lauren

Lauren’s wedding was so so much fun! We danced and danced and danced, but only after the sweetest ceremony! Of course, the groom had to be blocking my view of my own husband during the ceremony, but I guess it really was about the Wagoners anyway! Since the wedding, we’ve already had quite a few nights over at their new home, watching The Walking Dead and sharing dinners <– not at the same time of course, who can eat while watching that show anyway?!

#wagonerwedding

Brittany

We started the month of October with Brittany’s bachelorette party held in downtown San Diego. Lunch at Seaport Village followed by a night out in the Gaslamp District.

And then four weeks later, we all gathered together again to celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Totah, a beautiful and FABULOUS wedding in San Clemente! So so happy for Brittany!

BBQ

Thankfully, there were just two competitions these past couple months, one in Southern California and the other in Laughlin, Nevada.

Santa Anita

Laughlin

After not getting the best of scores at the Santa Anita competition, Rooftop placed 8th overall at the Nevada State Championships with three walks (chicken, pork, and brisket). This was such a fun weekend as us girls didn’t have to sample out food but just hang out and play cards. A wonderful and relaxing break after the craziness of the last couple months.

See my post from January/February, March, April & May, June & July, and August & September.

Photo A Day, November—Week 2

This last week was a wonderful combination of business and relaxing-ness. We had an out of town (Laughlin) BBQ competition last weekend, the best part was that we weren’t vending food so us girls just got to relax, play cards, and just catch up with one another. Another fantastically great part was that the whole Chapin family got to come out, so that not only meant time with Jamie but with her adorable kiddos (seriously look at those faces! ugh!).

After a great weekend, this week so far has been so nice too. Busy yet not too much, a great balance of work/freelance with some downtime at night and I even got to fit in a Disneyland trip for a couple hours on evening! Whoo to the hoo!

But seriously, November is now half over? Whaaaat? How’s your November been?

8/something I do everyday, 9/small, 10/can’t live without, 11/night, 12/drink, 13/where I slept, 14/man-made, 15/in my bag

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (August & September)

This is the last post before the October and November weddings, eeeek!!!!

Babies!

Jameson

Jameson totally crashed Brittany’s first bridal shower but it’s okay, we got to have a little photo shoot with him on the grass. Oh and then he came to our annual hotluck (his mama Courtney was pregnant with him at last years!). And I got to feed him his dinner and oh my was that so fun! He just loves to eat, it was cracking me up! Plus my grandpa asked to hold him and Jmo was so entranced by his glasses, so so cute! He really just keeps getting cuter and cuter and just has the best personality!

Owen!!

Oh this baby…. he just fills our hearts with joy at each and every glance when he gives you this big gummy grin! 🙂

Grayson!!

Little Grayson still seems so so little. Planning Lauren’s bridal shower gave me lots of opportunities to snuggle and cuddle this little fella. Can’t help that my heart just keeps growing and growing while loving these little men!

Brides

The last two months was filled with 5 bridal showers, one wedding invitation designed and mailed out to 150 families, and then one bachelorette party! whoop whoop!

Lauren

During Labor Day weekend, Lauren, my mom, and I got all the invites assembled and ready to send out while we were in Mesquite for a BBQ competition! Let me just say, I love love love how they came out! I’ll post more about them in a few weeks but here’s a sneak peek of their RSVP postcard, photo by me.

Lauren’s first shower was for her family at her aunt’s house with a gorgeous view of Lake Elsinore!

Her other shower was thrown by me and her bridesmaids with the theme of “picnic in Central Park.” It was such a great shower, I’ll be posting fully about it next week.

Then this past weekend we had her bachelorette party in Palm Springs with a picnic on the way in Idyllwild.

Brittany

This beautiful bride to be had three showers, the first of which was hosted by her maid of honor and sister Torrie, with some help from me. Check out the full post.

Then her godmother Cindy threw a shower for her family.

And finally, just this past weekend, her aunts threw a couples shower so Eric got to share the joy of a bridal (groom) shower!

BBQ

I almost felt like we’ve had a break from BBQ but really I just haven’t been able to go to most of them but I was at Westminster and at Mesquite until I had to leave early for Brittany’s second shower. Click on the photos to link to the Rooftop site for results, I know you’re all curious! 🙂

Westminster

Mesquite

Telluride, Colorado

So jealous I could not be there for the Colorado competition!

Dana Point

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (June & July)

This is a lighter post of the series but it’s truly the calm before the super fun storm coming up!

Babies!

Jameson

Little Jameson has been growing and growing and growing. It’s been almost two months since I have seen him but when I did get in a visit he got to show me all his new tricks like eating baby food from a spoon and bouncing in his bouncer. Oh I miss him, Mama Courtney!!!

Owen!!

Baby Owen has been chunking up before our very eyes. All I want to do is kiss those cheeks!! I am so thankful for how much time we spend with the Chapins and their boys. Owen and I got to spend a few special “first time with Sam” moments together all in one night, I got to feed, burp, and put him to sleep, and then he peed and spit up all over me! It’s love for sure!

Grayson!!

Oh and this baby. He’s still the smallest of course but there’s evidence of a second chin coming in! Not only did I get the chance to feed him too, we even got to have a slumber party with all the cuddling I wanted! Plus Jessica and I worked on his birth announcements and their family photos! Yay yay yay!

Brides

Things are coming together for the brides. A lot of the big stuff has been taken care of and the details are working themselves out.

I finally (!!) ordered my bridesmaid dress for Lauren’s wedding, it’s going to be in peacock and I just love it! It’s definitely a dress that I can wear again and again. And the wedding invitation design process has begun! Whoo!

So remember Brittany’s bridesmaid dress I mentioned last time, well we ended up with a completely different dress from a totally different store, The Dresser, in Fullerton! And no more purple, it’s all about taupe.

Plus, our dresses do this…. 🙂

Our first bride and bridesmaid celebration for Brittany just happened too, in the Sierras just two weekends ago! And it was a blast!! Click here for more on that…

BBQ

My last BBQ update was on 6 competitions in two months… this one is about: ZERO! Crazy! But what a niiiiiice break it has been! The boys have still been cooking though. They even catered our church’s 4th of July party by cooking a WHOLE HOG! Let’s say Crazy, again!

Andy also created this video on how to cook a tri tip… it’s proven a quick effective/yummy way!

And that’s all until next time! August is pretty packed full of events so I am sure it will get a post all its own!

See my post from January/February, March, and April & May.

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (April & May)

I really should have split this post up month by month but here’s two months of babies, brides, and BBQ!

Babies!

Jameson

Bath time fun with J at 3 months.

Amelia

Maybe the last visit with the little miss before the Logue’s move to San Diego. So sad for us but so happy for them and the work they are doing!

Owen!!

Little Owen arrived Monday, April 9! Little Eli just loves to show off “his baby” to anyone and everyone. They are just the cutest little brothers ever! The little photo collage are all from the night Owen was born, the next black and white photo is Owen at 10 days old settled in at home.

Grayson!!

Little Grayson arrived six weeks after his best friend Owen. This first photo is Grayson at about 14 hours old (the first time I saw him) then at 4 days old. Such love for this long awaited little guy!

Brides

Things are coming together for the brides. A lot of the big stuff has been taken care of and the details are working themselves out.

Lauren and I finished up her Save the Dates… Her and Kellen are BIG baseball fans and after taking engagement photos with Lindsay Chavez at Angels Stadium, we designed the Save the Date to resemble a baseball ticket. I’ll be posting more about these later.

Brittany and her maids went bridesmaid dress shopping last week… after going in for a short champagne colored dress we may end up with a floor length purple dress! Either way, I am gonna look goooood! haha ;o)

BBQ

In these last two months we have had 6 BBQ competitions… but the first of these was blogged last month (Vegas!). I am not going to bore you with too many details so go ahead and click on each image if you want to know more about the competition (it’ll link to the Rooftop blog).

Wildomar

No matter the size of that trophy, Rooftop is sure proud of getting a fifth in chicken! That is one hard category!

Sam’s Club

The guys got their first RGC (reserve grand champion aka 2nd place)… it was so so exciting!

Stagecoach

Three days of music and barbeque. I had to show this picture since I am usually taking them, thanks Dad!

Long Beach

This was an exhausting competition! Our TWO lines from 11 am until we sold out about 4:30 pm were each 40 people deep!

Scottsdale

Take note of their name on the jumbo tron during the awards! Soooooo cool!

See my post from January/February and March.

Stagecoach 2012 Is Coming!

With weeks of planning, Rooftop BBQ is heading to Stagecoach Thursday morning to compete plus vend to the public for the three days of the shows. I don’t know about you but I am most excited to see Steve Martin perform. I may be the only one who is more excited for a band that isn’t even headlining. So who else is going??

I was looking up photos for the Rooftop blog yesterday so I thought I’d share some from the event last year too!

Like when we met some of the members of the Rascall Flatts band!

Or like when Lauren and I finally figured out we could save seats before the public and we were on the jumbo screen!

I am especially excited for next week when my hubby can finally relax after a very long month of work and BBQ!

But seriously, who’s going?? Let’s meet up! And if you are going to be there, make sure you come by our BBQ booth: Rooftop BBQ!

The Year of Babies, Brides, and BBQ (March)

I totally planned to only post this every two months but March was just overflowing with babies, brides, and BBQ! Between baby showers, bridal birthdays, engagement parties, plus barbeque competitions and the launch of two more barbeque products… well, no wonder I am exhausted!

Babies!

Visits with Jameson (9 weeks) and Amelia (almost 5 weeks).

Our friends Jessica and Jamie each had their showers. They are just five weeks a part so it is so fun seeing them experience this together, and even more exciting to anticipate their boys growing up together!

Jess and our church threw Jamie’s shower, a theme of woodland creatures to match Owen’s nursery. Read Jess’ post (with more photos) here.

This was by far the most entertaining baby shower game I have ever seen! Each girl is blind folded and given a set of clothespins. Whoever can pin the most on the other wins. I am glad I can laugh at their pain because it was so so funny!

Here is both Jamie and Jessica, well more Owen and Grayson!

Just a week later was Jessica’s shower. Jamie and Trisha hosted this one and I must thank them for getting Jess’ favorite cupcakes from Truly Madly Sweetly… oooooh so so good! I was really excited for Jess’ shower, just like everyone else, including Jess, just because it has been a long time coming! I am tearing up now thinking about it, but after everything she has been through, this baby is such a blessing straight from God. So thankful for our little miracle, Grayson!

The theme of Jess’ shower also matches the nursery, navy blue and white with elephants. More photos on Jess’ blog here.

I was just a bit excited!

Jess provided her own favors for the shower… each candle tag says:

Hi Family and Friends,
Just want to thank you for helping mommy and daddy to welcome me into the world! On the day you hear my mommy is in labor, light the candle and say a prayer for me, my mommy, and daddy.
Thank you all and I can’t wait to meet you!!
Lots of love, Grayson

And of course a group shot of the girls toward the end of the shower… oh how I love them. I already blogged about this wonderful moment here.

I also designed the invites and some other paper goods for the actual showers and hope to blog about those soon!

Brides

Bride time has slowed down a bit but Lauren and I, with my mom, still made it down to the Vintage Marketplace for wedding decor ideas.

Later that same day, Andy and I attended Brittany and Eric’s Anchorman themed engagement party!

BBQ

BBQ is really getting into full swing! The second weekend of March was our competition in Santa Anita. Rooftop BBQ took their first ever 1st place trophy plaque in ribs! What a night! It was also Jamie’s husband Joey’s first time competing with the team too.

Then just this past weekend was our Vegas competition against 100 of the biggest teams in America. It was a tough competition but the boys beat their scores from last year pulling a 23rd and 26th in chicken and ribs. There was also a smaller, celebrity cook off that Andy took part in. His celebrity team mates were the wrestlers, the Hardy Brothers. It was so cool to see Andy in a Iron Chef like environment with camera crews, judges, and secret ingredients. All I have to say is that Andy was a lot nicer to their cooking goof offs than he is with me in the kitchen!

See my post from January and March.
