Lynzie and Daniel Barish Wedding, Heritage Lake, Menifee; with J. Rose Photography
A HUGE great BIG thanks must first go out to Jessica at J. Rose Photography for inviting me to tag along with her as she photographed our friend Lynzie's wedding. Having videographed quite a few weddings (also as an assistant), I have seen my share of the behind the scenes, but as the videographers follow the photographer, the head photographer really has the greatest responsibility on his or her shoulders. Jessica knew that I had always wanted to assist her at a wedding and as she rarely shoots them, I finally just got my chance. Mostly I only photographed the formals but my favorites are of just Lynzie and her now husband Daniel. I must say my favorite part of being a second shooter is getting the chance to shoot the artsier shot
Senior Portraits Flyer for J. Rose Photography
Working with Jessica from J. Rose Photography is such a dream for me! We have worked together on such a range of projects and have really grown to trust one another through the process. We each inspire one another on all our projects—even when we are working with other people we still show each other our work to get feedback which is truly invaluable. When I work with Jessica on her personal projects she will usually give me a pin board of ideas, but for her business our usual process starts with her sending me the images she personally has taken and wants to use. And in turn her images will inspire my design and collage composition. And this was our exact process for her 2013 Senior Portrait postcard flyer
Evernotes Every Friday
Last night I mentioned that I have been quite a busy worker bee. Working a full time job leads to late nights working on freelance projects. Which then leads to no time to get an Evernotes Every post together. So this edition is going to be a little different and maybe something I can start doing once every few months (??). Today I am giving a glimpse into a few different projects that I have been brewing. I'd love to know if you like this kind of post, let me know if you like in the comments. 1. Soccer Camp Two weeks ago I worked on a graphic for the coach's t-shirts for an upcoming soccer camp at my church
Rooftop Barbeque
I started this post almost 2 years ago and never got around to actually finishing it and getting it posted. Better late than never, I guess. Well even if you've been following my blog for awhile or are a new reader, I will recap on the last three years in our little lives
Doilies, Lace and Burlap Engagement Party for Amie and Matt
This past year I have been obsessed with scrapbooking. Literally, obsessed. My husband will not even go with me to Michael's anymore
Ships Ahoy, Illustrated Pirate Themed Baby Shower Invitation
I just love collaborating with Jess on all these shower invites for our church! She asked for a combination of "starry night" and "pirates" and then we both wrote to each other simultaneously to depict a pirate ship silhouette at night. We were both so excited that it didn't take long to complete the invite—it's crazy how fast you can complete a design when you're struck with inspiration. I quickly mocked up a sketch so I wouldn't lose focus once I started on the digital version, illustrated the various pieces with pencil and marker, scanned them in, and then used Illustrator to complete the design. Another fun aspect of this shower's pirate theme, is that our home is immensely decorated using trunks, pirate ships, and glass bottles so Jess was able to borrow a lot of the pieces in our home to decorate the shower—like the trunk I used in the first photograph. Hope you enjoyed a little glimpse behind the design! P.S. Jess is such a good shower planner! I loved how she served up a hot chocolate bar to go with the starry night theme. We also worked on the Central Park Picnic and Woodland Creatures invitations along with a church luncheon
Photographing My Best Friend’s Proposal
When Matt sent me a text message on the Thursday before Christmas I just knew what it would entail. He was about to propose to my best friend. What started as a discussion on the where and when turned into the who and what as well. I would be starting Amie's morning with breakfast and coffee with a walk down to the Orange Circle where her darling boyfriend would be awaiting her with a ring in hand. Of course, several minute details of the day caused several mishaps like Matt falling asleep after his night shift and barely making it in time to propose and Amie having one of the many colds of the winter season. Those small "almost missed the moment" moments will add the depth every good proposal story needs. I will always remember the day as the morning I cried on the phone with my mom as I drove to Orange County in the anticipation of the day. The morning I drank too much coffee to stall the soon to be bride before the [so far] best moment of her life. The morning I got to witness, and photograph, when my best friend's man of her dreams got down
A Johnson Family Christmas, Old Town Murrieta
Huge thanks to the Johnson family for being my first family portrait session! I could not have asked for a better family, better weather, or a better location for this session. It was perfect! We took these the weekend after Thanksgiving but as they were a Christmas gift to family members, they had to be locked up tight! But now that Christmas has been celebrated, let's carry on the festivities with a little Christmas portrait viewing! P.S. You may recognize Rachel for a bazillion other posts on here, this growing photography obsession got a huge start from her modeling services!
Steadfast Business Cards/Flyers
I can not fully tell you how much I am in love with these Steadfast business cards, a recent project with my church. Their Facebook page describes the group best: Steadfast Young Adults Fellowship is a group of young people between the ages of 18-35 who love Jesus Christ, love the Word of God, love others, want to reach the lost, love prayer and worship, love fellowship, and just want to keep it simple and Biblical. Acts 2:42 When asked to design these, I was asked to keep it simple with white on black but with a "saloon look." After going back and forth with them one night, we decided on using the chalkboard as a background. From there the design came quite easily. The cards will be used not only as a business card but more so as a flyer to hand out and get the group known in the community. Hoping and praying that these accomplish just that. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoeer believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16
Allens Head North: Pike’s Place, Seattle
If you were to ask me what my favorite part of our Washington trip was, I would have to say that I just loved spending time with my husband. Sadly, time together has become a rare occasion this year. Our trip allowed us to reconnect because it was simply just the two of us traveling around, in one of our favorite places, during our favorite time of the year. Another great thing about our trip was that while staying in the city of Seattle, our hotel was a mere block up from Pike's Place, the public [farmer's] market. Andy and I lost count how many times we actually made our way down there whether it was for breakfast (best donuts ever!), lunch (sandwiches from the Italian deli!!), or dinner (tamales from the Mexican grocer!!!). Oh and for fruit (mmmm best honeycrisp apples everrrrr!)!!! And of course, just visiting the various shops. We were able to just take our time and meander through the whole market, which I had never done since there's usually never time for it. Pike's Place is quite the tourist center, but all the shops are built by the locals so there's a great combination of cultures, i.e. great
