Isaiah’s Under the Sea First Birthday Party

After Lauren’s beautiful baby shower in May, I was in a party planning slump which meant I ended up putting off planning Isaiah’s birthday party until the absolute last minute! The whole party pulled together only the week of the event, except for the invite of course.

I took some photos in my office of my favorite decorations before the party just in case something happened to them on the day of. I got a little caught up in them and they probably don’t really go for a first birthday but I love them nonetheless.

But first, I want to share the invite with you! It was so fun to work with such bright paint colors! And make the simple ocean illustrations all fit together like a big puzzle!

And of course I had to paint up some Thank You cards to match! However, that did make me end up sending them months late! Just like this blog post, I’m always late nowadays! 😛

While searching for Under the Sea birthday party ideas, I came across this saying about the ocean and loved it so much, I knew it needed to be on display at the party!

I also came across these amazing glass bottles at Michael’s and of course I had to write all over it. I used lyrics from “Oceans” by Hillsong… it’s another one of those decor items that don’t really fit a kid’s birthday party but I just had to make it. My hands were itching to letter on this bottle!

One very important part to any kid’s first birthday party invitation is the “achievement poster.” I loved going over all of our boy’s favorite things, collecting what’s near and dear to our guy and painting them all out. He made the perfect model as well! I had no idea what he was going to do posing with a poster over half his size but his little faces looking at his mama’s work was adorable.

Finally, here are some photos from the actual birthday party day!

Our amazingly generous friend Anthony took the majority of these photos! It was such a relief to just be able to focus on Isaiah and not have to worry about documenting all these details! So thank you, Anthony!!

And that’s the end of that! It was here and gone within a blink of an eye and now I have a 15 month old! But seriously, when do we stop counting months? Anyway, the day was such a joy. I love watching our boy be loved on by his family and friends. My heart just overflows.

Amelia’s first birthday party was a few weeks ago now, and I have been so anxious to post photos from the event.

Under the Sea Birthday Party Invitations

Of course, we must start with the invitations. I have to say these are pretty much my most favorite invitations I’ve ever designed. From the hand drawn illustrations to the layers of color and texture… I just love them.

Rachel picked up these fun coral envelopes (and pearl clasps for the invites she personally handed out). Then each one was hand addressed and stuffed with a white pearlescent envelope liner. I just love them!

Under the Sea Birthday Party Centerpieces

I wasn’t able to help nearly as much as I did with the baby shower, and with school finals and life in general, Rachel and I decided to tone it back for the birthday party decorations. We tried to just focus our energies on a few tables and ideas.

All the centerpieces collectively cost less than $15! We bought a few fresh succulents, collected sand from the beach, and then picked up a couple of the glass bowls at Joann’s for 99 cents! The rest of the centerpieces were random decorations from my own house (thank you, nautical themed office!) and the trays were recycled from Amie’s wedding in November. Easy!

Rachel also hung some clear ornaments in the trees to look like bubbles. The little babes loved those!

I then made a banner for the fence along with some fun fringe letters for the gift table.

On the way inside, Rachel hung a net and clipped photos from the year to it. It was really fun having the bubble maker going during the party too, it was a festive entrance for sure!

Under the Sea Bubble Balloon Wall and Cake Table

Once inside, the guests were greeted with a bubble wall… created with a mixture of pearlescent balloons and a few twisted green streamers for seaweed.

In front of the bubble wall, sat the cake table. Rachel spent the day and night before the party creating this art piece. It was so pretty! I loved the scallop frosting she did! We had a few other knick-knacks on the table as well as a few more photos. And as my gift to Amelia (okay, its really for Rachel)—I commissioned Emily from Yellowstring to create a watercolor portrait of Rachel and Amelia from the first birthday photo session at the beach. I just love how it came out and had fun finding a matching matte and frame at Hobby Lobby.

And you can’t have a first birthday without the birthday cake smash!

And one last photo, after the party was over we had to get one last shot of Miss Mia in front of the bubble wall before bathtime.

Amelia’s One Year Birthday Photos at the Beach

Little Miss Amelia turned one earlier this month! And for Mia’s birthday photos, we wanted to head down to the beach to take photos that we could use as decoration at her Under the Sea birthday party.

I know that she’s pointing at her grandma behind me, but I like to think she’s saying “I’m one!” (P.S. Thanks Grandma Kim for being THE BEST assistant ever!)

I love this girl’s smile! She just loves life, and is curious about everything! She has the heart for adventure!

Once we got closer to the beach itself, it was time for a wardrobe change! Rachel made Mia these adorable crowns for the photoshoot… she looks like a bohemian beach princess.

She really wasn’t too sure what to think of the sand… or the waves… or the water in general. Which led to lots of sweet moments with mommy.

I am showing you this cute little one from behind, not only to show off her standing by herself, and those chunky thighs of hers, but I am pretty sure she was screaming mad at us at this moment. 🙂

As the sun set, we took her up to the dry sand and just let her play. It didn’t take long for her curiosity to get the best of her and dig in.

Oh Miss Mia, thank you for always being so full of surprises and keeping us on our toes. After forcing you to take a bath outside, you would have thought we had learned our lesson. Thank you for being you, your feisty, sweet, adventurous, you.

I just adore personal projects… the detail and passion behind them really shines through every time! Hey Ticketmaster! Check this out!

Dear Ticketmaster,
It is time to redesign the master of all tickets.

From the size to the reformatting of information, it’s truly a great new look. Created and designed by Medium, found via designworklife’s Quick Links.

2. First Birthday Infographic Invitation

I’m amazed at this birthday invitation for 2 reasons… 1. How awesome would an infographic be for your baby’s first year… what a great way to remember all the little firsts and victories in their lives… and 2. how in the world did this baby’s mama have time to create this special little momento? Kudos to her! [Another find] via designworklife, designed by Misty Manley.

5. Big Brush Pen

I’m somewhat addicted to buying art pens… like every time I see a new post or recommendation on one, I just have to have it. So it’s a given when one of my favorite lettering idols (1canoe2) posts about one, I needed it, like, yesterday!
