Friday Footnotes

1. Aesop Illustrated

Since November, at the design company I work at, we’ve been immersed in the land of nursery rhymes and poems as we illustrate large scale posters for the primary elementary school classrooms. I got pretty excited to see how other artists are tackling these poems and fables in the modern world. See more of Denise Gallagher’s work on Aesop Illustrated on For Print Only, or check out her site.

2. Brave the Woods’ Target Gift Cards Design

I always have the hardest time picking out which gift card design I like best… or more so, which design do I dislike the least… so I love seeing these gift cards from Brave the Woods for Target. These would definitely be the obvious choice! I love the subtle the texture and grit, along with the playful typography. And of course, the color scheme just pops without being too saturated. Such nice work Brad!!

3. The Meaning of Maggie, Book Trailer

I may just not in the loop, but did you know books have video trailers now? This trailer for The Meaning of Maggie, by Megan Jean’s Sovern, is just SO fun! And I loved seeing a glimpse of the process to create it on designworklife. Seems like a really fun read!

4. Make Your Own Outdoor Pergola Curtains

Just last month we had a new patio cover installed, it even has an overhead fan to help beat the miserable heat of southern California. Another wonderful aspect of it, is our added privacy because we are very close to our neighbors in proximity. I kinda jumped out of my chair when I saw that A Beautiful Mess had posted a DIY for pergola curtains! These would add even more privacy for us and give our little space the illusion of walls. Love! Read the DIY here.

5. The Dress Theory Bridal Shop Opens in San Diego

A long time friend of mine has started a series of bridal dress shops that sell the most detailed and gorgeous wedding dresses I’ve ever seen. They’re so very vintage in style, and the shop itself is decorated in a similar style. When we were up in Seattle a couple years ago I got to see the first Dress Theory in person, and it truly is lovely! I am so proud of my friend Cami and all that she has done with this business of hers. It’s truly amazing to follow along… after opening up a second shop in Nashville last year, they’re now on their THIRD location here in southern California! Yay! Okay… I know I am already married and whatnot, but I still have a handful of not-yet-married girlfriends and I can’t wait to tag along to this shop and see it in person. If you’re a bride to be, go check it out!! They just opened, literally!

P.S. If you think that front porch is to-die-for… check out Cami’s blog where she shares how you can have your own front porch party too!

I believe in magic. I believe in the power of true love. I believe in fairy tales and happy endings. And I live to create stationery and art for the young at heart to allow my fellow dreamers to treasure all of life’s most wondrous moments!
